Dorchester County Public Schools, Mace's Lane, The Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland,The Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland (LBCM) was pleased to welcome two Dorchester County students from Mace’s Lane Middle School, ZaMiera Page and Ta’Breon Sampson to Youth Day in Annapolis, held on Saturday, February 27th. The students were accompanied by Afterschool Program Coordinator, Ms. Terrell Sample and 5th grade teacher at Choptank Elementary, Ms. Jennifer Lake. The theme for the day was “Youth Matter: Embracing and Elevating our Future”
The event, chaired by Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes serving District 37-A for Dorchester and Wicomico Counties, was an opportunity for students to learn about and share experiences and priorities with members of the LBCM. Students were able to interact with legislators while engaging “hands on” in a mock process of introducing bills in committee, voting on them, and preparing to pass them into laws.
Students took a tour of the State House and office buildings and attended a panel comprised of distinguished leaders with varied careers from education, law, medicine, to entrepreneurship. The students were pleased to see a familiar face as Dr. Lorenzo Hughes served as one of the panelists for careers in education.
