The Opportunity Zone program is a federal initiative housed in the U.S. Treasury. Each county in Maryland has a designated zone or zones. These zones were created to revitalize economically distressed communities using private investments. Investors can receive capital gain tax incentives in exchange by investing in the zones.

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has developed the Opportunity Zone Information Exchange. According to DHCD’s website, “the Information Exchange will serve as a virtual meeting place for investors, fund managers, property developers, new or expanding businesses, and local stakeholders.”

The Exchange is a place where investors or private citizens can find the latest news, location of projects and businesses at the county and municipal levels.
