Maryland economic development awards | Dorchester County EDA

The Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) announced the winners of the 2022 MEDA Awards during their annual conference at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina. The 2022 awards, sponsored by Miles & Stockbridge P.C., recognize the exceptional people, programs and projects bringing economic prosperity to Maryland.

The Eastern Shore Economic Recovery Program Nominated by: Caroline County Economic Development, Dorchester County Economic Development and Talbot County Office of Economic Development and Tourism- won the Economic Development Program Award.

When the COVID-19 pandemic surged — and it became evident that business shutdowns and restrictions could cripple the economy — economic development and tourism practitioners in Talbot, Caroline and Dorchester Counties were invited to the table as jurisdictions grappled with a response.

The Eastern Shore Economic Recovery Project grew out of these newly formed partnerships and was spurred by the need for information to make speedy, data-driven decisions. Well into this 24-month project, the team developed and released a website housing data-driven dashboards. The dashboards show Maryland sales tax collections across years, across county boundaries, and across industries; and a bi-annual survey that will track business sentiment local and regionally, identify challenges facing the region and assist in long-term planning and the development of public policy. The final push for this project consists of an outreach campaign to explain the use of the tools to stakeholders, including elected officials and business leaders.
