Economic development rarely happens overnight. Behind new projects, business expansions, infrastructure improvements, and workforce initiatives are often years of preparation—and a willingness to keep working toward opportunities that may take time to materialize.
That long-term approach was the focus of a recent Cambridge Spy conversation with Susan Banks, Director of Dorchester County Economic Development. The interview looks at how work underway since 2014 is helping position Dorchester County for continued business growth and investment.
Banks discusses the importance of building the foundation businesses need to succeed, including infrastructure, broadband access, workforce development and business support. The conversation also explores several projects that demonstrate how those investments are beginning to translate into visible results.
Among them is the continued development of the Dorchester Regional Technology Park, including the arrival of Fire & Risk Alliance, as well as infrastructure and community investments such as Woods Road improvements and Rails to Trails.
Together, these efforts illustrate an important part of economic development that is not always visible: creating the conditions for opportunity before a project is ready to happen.
The Cambridge Spy interview offers a closer look at Dorchester County’s economic development strategy, the progress already underway, and the long-term work continuing behind the scenes to support businesses, attract investment, and strengthen the local economy.
