The Dorchester County Economic Development (DCED) office would like to welcome A.C. Alrey, the new Business Development Manager to their team. A.C. Alrey is a Public affairs and Urban/Rural Development Professional with extensive experience in business-government-community relations, community and economic development, planning, education and workforce development, community outreach/engagement, legislation and public policy, marketing, and business/client development via his background in the public, nonprofit and private sectors.
Mr. Alrey earned his B.A. in Urban and Metropolitan Studies from Michigan State University (MSU). He is a graduate of both the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute, and the Auburn University Economic & Community Development Institute’s Intensive Economic Development Training Program. His background includes working in local government economic development offices, and in the executive and legislative branches of government at both the state and local levels (in several states). He has spent a considerable amount of time in the area of technology transfer and commercialization between the public sector (federal labs) and private industry, as well as several years in the environmental/solid waste industry (including landfills and recycling facilities) in multiple states. He has also spent time in the educational field as both a teacher and a public school board member.
His public and nonprofit boards/commissions and community involvement continues to focus on the areas of economic and social justice, community engagement, planning and economic development, environmental issues, regionalism, international relations, arts and culture, education and human/leadership development.
