Blackwater Adventures | Dorchester County EDA

Blackwater Adventures is a premier outdoor adventure outfitter that was started by local husband and wife, Jay and Susan Meredith, in 2002.  Originally named Blackwater Paddle and Pedal, they operated out of the Bucktown General Store and museum with only 4 kayaks and 4 bikes.

Blackwater Adventures has continued to grow and expand from their start at the general store. Their flagship waterfront property is located on the Blackwater River and formerly operated as a tomato canary in the 1930’s. In 2007 they partnered with the Hyatt to provide recreational outdoor tours and rentals for visitors  staying at the resort.

Blackwater Adventures continues to be a family operated business with Susan and Jay’s children, Wesley, Matthew, and Kacey.  The local outfitter rents bikes, boats, jet skis, kayaks, paddleboards, and offers lessons, guided tours, rental deliveries, corporate recreation, and event space.

Situated near 29,000 acres of public land with access to 5 major, calm water, rivers- Blackwater Adventures offers an idyllic opportunity to explore the area and discover nature. Customers can make reservations with Blackwater Adventures year round. They offer experiences for every level- including those who have never used kayaks, paddleboards, or motorized recreation vehicles.  Expect to have safety training and knowledgeable staff to assist with each rental or tour they offer.

Starting this Friday, Blackwater Adventures is proud to announce they are partnering with the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park to offer Ranger led kayak tours.  During the 2 hour trip expect to hear inspiring stories about Harriet Tubman, the Underground Railroad and learn how freedom seekers used the waterways while traveling the Little Blackwater River. Spaces are limited. Click here for more information, and to reserve your spot for this tour, click here.
