Each week the Dorchester County Economic Development Office (DCED) posts a profile of a Millennial working in Dorchester County. Millennials, also know as Generation Y, are a highly educated generation known for their entrepreneurial spirit. The start and end dates for the generation are debated but are typically considered to be 1980-2000. According to the Pew Research Center, more than one-in-three American workers are Millennials. Focusing on Dorchester County’s young professionals highlights their contributions to the community and also provides a showcase of the younger generation working in local businesses.
The first month DCED highlighted five young professionals that work in Dorchester. The first profile was Chelsea Dunnock, 26 years old. Chelsea graduated from the Perdue School of Business at Salisbury University. She is the Mid-Atlantic Channel Account Manager for ForeScout Technologies Inc. Headquartered in CA, Forescout Technologies is a leader in cyber ware security offering solutions that integrate with leading network; security; mobility and IT management products to overcome security silos; automate workflows and enable significant cost savings. Chelsea lives in Dorchester County and is a home owner.
The second profile was Gary Baxter, 26 years old. Gary graduated from Salisbury University with a degree in Geography and Earth Science; Atmospheric Science and Environmental Land Use Planning. He is currently working on his Master’s Degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. Gary is a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Specialist and works for Dorchester County in the planning and zoning department. Gary is responsible for maintaining and updating the County’s Geographic Information Systems database and associated web mapping applications.
Sisters, Alexandra and Ashton Wheatley, were profiled next. Ages 26 and 23, both are Registered Nurses and graduated from Salisbury University with Nursing Degrees. They work for the University of Maryland Health System. Alexandra is an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurse and Ashton is an Emergency Room (ER) nurse. While attending Salisbury University Alexandra and Ashton played on the women’s Lacrosse Team and dawned the centerfold of Lacrosse Magazine! Both sisters are recent first time home buyers in Dorchester County.
The first month of profiles ended with Kevin Basilio, 23 years old, graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park. Kevin has a Mechanical Engineering degree and is an Application Engineer for Cambridge International. He is responsible for computer aided design work, performs evaluations and installations of customer’s conveyor belts, and designs and estimates conveyor belts and related parts.
