Dorchester Hiring Developer to Design-Build 1st Incubator
In an overflowing conference room at the County’s economic development office January 11, more than two dozen developers attended a pre-bid meeting to learn about the Request for Proposals (RFP) issued December 28 for design and construction of “Innovation Crossroads,” the Eastern Shore’s first dedicated incubator to be located at the Dorchester Regional Technology Park on Bucktown Road.
Specifications and developer capabilities were presented by Pat Larabee of Facility Logix in a two-hour meeting that also allowed attendees to ask questions related to the bid solicitation. Project specifications call for a 15,000-square foot facility to include offices, co-working space, light manufacturing, conference rooms, and wet lab plumbing. The building will tap into the high-speed broadband already installed in the technology park.
Expected to break ground this spring, the incubator will create more than 100 jobs. Innovation Crossroads is the anchor tenant and first building in the 115-acre business park. Targeted businesses include GIS, environmental science, precision agriculture, service companies, light manufacturing and assembly, alternative energy and defense contracting.
Economic Development Director Keasha Haythe is simultaneously hiring a incubator manager to begin developing both a virtual network and recruiting tenants for the incubator. For information on joining the incubator or the technology park, contact Keasha at 410-228-0155.
