Maryland Farm-to-School Week

Dorchester County Public Schools
It’s not usual to see school buses in front of Sandy Hill Elementary in the morning, but farm equipment? This is part of today’s kick-off of Maryland Farm-to-School Week when local produce is celebrated along with other food-related activities, all to get kids excited about healthy food. This morning watermelon seeds and information cards were being distributed to all students, compliments of Emily’s Produce, so with some soil, water, and sunshine kids can grow their own. Different activities will be offered across the schools such as food tastings, farmer visits, and nutrition lessons, along with locally grown tomatoes, cucumbers, yellow squash, white corn on the cob, broccoli, kale, red apples, yellow apples, watermelon, and peaches as an extra to school menus. Celebrate local!
