New Technology Face Added to Campaign

The Dorchester County Economic Development Office welcomes Quevera as the new technology face in the water moves us branding campaign. Quevera, a software engineering company headquartered in Columbia, MD expanded to Cambridge and will move into the Eastern Shore Innovation Center this month. CEO Lee Simms added, “We are very excited to be part of the Dorchester County community and look forward to growing a partnership with Dorchester County schools and the Economic Development office. Quevera is vested in this community and excited about residing in the technology incubator.  We are letting ‘water move us’ to opportunities throughout the Eastern Shore.” Maryland is a national leader in Technology. In 2014 the US Department of Commerce ranked Maryland first for technology based Entrepreneurship and Innovation.  It was also marked first in the nation for concentration of businesses and jobs in Science, Technology, Math, and Engineering (STEM) and fourth in the nation for tech employment density. Gootee’s Marine in Branding Campaign

Dorchester County has a rich boating heritage including boating building, skipjacks, marinas, and sailing. Rivers, creeks and the bay provide recreation as well as a living for many residents in the county. Water, it’s part of Dorchester’s identity, heritage and opportunity and for that reason the boating industry was chosen to be part of the “water moves us” branding campaign. The Dorchester County Economic Development Office (DCED) is excited to have Gootee’s Marine as the next new face in the branding campaign. Located on Hooper’s Island Road in Church Creek, Gootees Marine is a well-known family run business since 1954, focusing on new and used boats, motors and trailer sales as well as fishing charters. Sales Manager Nick Gootee said, “I love the direct contact with the public and helping them decide which boat or engine best suits their needs, wants, and budget.” Gootee’s Marine employs 12 full employees, and most employees have been there over 20 years. Dorchester Welcomes New Business

After 5 years at their headquarters in Frederick, Maryland, Premier Fire Protection Services (PremFPS) opened a second location on Chesapeake Drive in Cambridge. Urgent Care and Wellness Center

Operating six days a week, Cambridge Urgent Care and Wellness Center is a convenient walk-in medical facility on Bramble Street. The Center opened their doors in the spring of 2013. Offering care for minor injuries and illness as well as pre-employment physicals, workman’s compensation and DOT physicals. Urgent care facilities provide care to those who require immediate attention but not serious enough to visit the emergency room. Director of Cambridge Urgent Care and Wellness Center Lisa Marshall, CRNP said, “There are future plans to expand hours and hire additional staff”. Currently, there are six full time employees. The growing business provides care to over 5,000 patients in the surrounding area each year. Campaign Shows Face of Rural MD

The Rural Maryland Foundation’s purpose is to support efforts of citizens and governments to meet the economic and social needs of rural Maryland.  They recently traveled the state promoting their ASPIRE campaign and spent four days asking rural residents their aspirations for their communities.  The foundation made a short video from their unscripted responses and shared it on YouTube and other social media outlets.
